Your Theory Driving Test

Your driving test is in two parts – Theory Test and Practical Test. You can only apply to take your practical test once you have passed your theory test. ASM – Abermule of Motoring will help to guide you through your test process.

Theory Test

The Theory Test is in two parts, you will need to pass both parts in order to move to the Practical Test, if you pass just one part you will need to take both parts of the Theory Test again.

Multiple Choice Section
Choices of answers are provided on screen for you to answer using a simple touch screen process; some questions may require more than one answer. There are 50 questions; you have 57 minutes in which to answer them. You will need to answer 43 correctly out of 50 in order to pass the test.
Hazard Perception Test
You are provided with a series of video clips in which you have to show that you have seen a hazard as it develops, for a higher score you will need to indicate early perception by the click of a mouse. In order to pass the Hazard Perception test you will need to score 44 out of 75.

You can practice for the Theory Test on-line using the DSA – Driving Standards Agency website.
If you do not have access to a computer you can use a laptop provided by ASM – Abermule School of Motoring during lesson time.

If you intend to use the ASM tuition car for your test you will need to quote a reference number provided by ASM to avoid any double booking .
Ensure that you arrive at both the Theory and Practical Test Centres in plenty of time and make sure that you have all of the required documents with you.

You will need both parts of your valid driving licence (the photocard at the test centre. If you have an old-style licence without a photo you must also bring a valid passport.
